Shoe Project Stories - A Rewarding Collaboration with the Rotary Club of Calcutta, Mahanagar: Donating to Rickshaw Drivers & More

“Empowering Communities One Step at a Time”. Welcome to another edition of The Shoe Project Stories, where we chronicle some of the highlights from our key philanthropic endeavor, The Shoe Project. To recap, this project was born with the mission to provide good quality, podiatrist approved shoes, along with foot health education material to populations in need. Launched in summer 2021, the Women Who Win team has collaborated with leading organizations around the globe to bring this project to life, including Lion’s Club of Juhu, St Patricks Shelter in Somerville MA, the Indian Medical Association of New England, and numerous supportive individuals passionate about this cause.

This week, we are excited to share another successful shoe donation, which was in collaboration with Rotary Club of Calcutta, Mahanagar. We were able to donate in various locations of Bhawanipore & Lansdowne. Shoes were donated to rickshaw pullers, cycle van pullers, and hand cart pullers. These communities are on their feet all day, often barefoot or in poor quality shoes, putting them at risk of foot infections and deformities. This was a community truly in need for proper footwear. A very nicely executed project, the recipients were overwhelmed with joy and thrilled to be receiving a much needed pair of good quality footwear to improve the quality of their daily lives and their livelihood. We are excited to partner with the Rotary Club of Calcutta, Mahanagar, an organization who for more than three decades, have been serving the community to fight illiteracy and poverty, promoting clean water and sanitation and fight disease, and enriching local communities.

Thank you to Sarla Totla, IPP Pranay Agarwal, RTN Pancham Surana, RTN Mahindra Singhal, and President Ashok Agarwal for helping in our mission to empower communities one step at a time. Thank you Ramila Thakkar, Aashita Shekhar, Dr. Shikha Merchia, and the Indian Medical Association of New England for their contributions.
