Tamanna’s TV Picks - A Thoughtful Review of Netflix’s Masaba Masaba Season 2

By Tamanna Raisinghani

We are excited to kick-off a new series, Tamanna’s TV Picks, written by Women Who Win host and contributing writer, Tamanna Raisinghani. Every month, she will share a compelling review of the shows and movies she is currently streaming. Check out her thoughtful review of Masaba Masaba Season 2, currently streaming on Netflix. She writes, When Masaba is on the screen, which is most of the time, you don't want to see anyone else. Enjoy!

If you have watched season 1 of Masaba Masaba, I am sure you are looking forward to watching the second season (streaming on Netflix) and more so if you are a Masaba fan like me. Season 2 focuses on Masaba's dilemma's about starting a relationship after her divorce and a few casual one night stands. Without going too much into the story, I can say that Masaba can act and she has a charismatic screen presence. When she is on the screen, which is most of the time, you don't want to see anyone else. The story is supposedly based on real events in her life with some layers of fiction added to make it an entertaining watch. I found season 1 more close to reality than this one. There is more Bollywood drama added this time with love triangle, pressure of social media and trying to keep up with the new emerging designers besides other things. The show manages to show the struggles that go behind the glossy life of glitz and glamor without being overly preachy. All that glitters is not gold. Success does not come without sacrifices. You cannot have it all and this show shows it beautifully and with honesty.

There is a parallel track about Neena Gupta's trying to revive her popular show and her dissatisfaction with today's generations’ ways of twisting the story lines and compromising on the quality of content just to be in the business and pleasing production houses. Does she go with it? or follows her heart? What does Masaba do when she has a choice to make for a fashion show finale that she dreamt of? Does she showcase a tried and tested formula for her designs that sells or follows her heart and tries something out of the box, unconventional and completely unique? Its easier said than done to listen to your heart as the heart knows the way. But how many of us actually do it? Many times we end up listening to our heads instead of hearts. And sometimes we regret and sometimes we don't. Its not about a battle between head and heart. Its about having the wisdom to know when to listen to what? In this show also you will see Masaba trying to balance this out. Her inner narrative that we can hear loud and clear depicts the voice in our head that so often we use to navigate in our lives. But that voice in our heads is not always right. We can get carried away if we end up listening to it all the time. Mistakes are the best teachers if we choose to learn from them.

Masaba's equation with her best friend and the way they have each other's back is such a delight to watch. We all need such a friend in our lives that we can lean on and pour our hearts out. No judgements, bitterness and competition. Only unconditional acceptance and support. Her relationship with her mom is like any other mother daughter relationship with its fair share of disagreements and arguments. But underneath all of that there is a strong foundation of love, respect and admiration.

Overall it's an entertaining watch. Masaba mein kuch baat hai. Watch it for her.

Thank you Tamanna for sharing your inspiring story with us. We are excited to have you in our global women’s network!
