Fashion Designer, Entrepreneur, Mother - Mansi Modi Balances It All

“Fashion trend for fall 2022 - sequins sequins and sequins!! Shiny palettes are back and they’re everywhere, literally. “ Today’s woman dreamer Mansi Modi consistently advocates for confidence, sustainability, and the power of support from family. She started her brand “Geometrix Fashion Hut”, while taking care of a newborn baby, and is now displaying her work in New York and Paris Fashion weeks. In this inspiring interview with our intern Dia Arora, Mansi Modi reminds us what it means to be a #dreamcatcher as she turns her passion for fashion into a business and platform for advocacy.

  1. You began Geometrix Fashion Hut while taking care of a newborn baby: tell us about that experience? What advice would you give other mothers who want to start their own businesses?

I launched my brand right after having my son. Building a business as a new parent seemed daunting at first. Both the business and my newborn baby demanded attention; I knew failing to give enough attention to one or the other could result in disaster. Working from home with kids requires you to dedicate full-time hours to both your family and your business. It’s necessary to cultivate productivity while also maintaining your role as a loving parent to a newborn child.

What worked for me was creating a schedule. Prioritize organization and either be on or off meaning your business and family are separate. You shouldn’t let one take away from the other. Your family should have your full attention when you’re spending time with them. Additionally, when you’re working, don’t slip away to do chores or other household projects. Lastly, always ask for help when needed whether it's from your spouse, parents or relatives. It's easy to just ask. The advice I would give to all the amazing mothers out there is to be just happy in doing what they do. You're already doing enough.

2. What influenced you to go to fashion school? What is the most valuable lesson you learned from your time there?

I have always been very creative. Design inspiration is everywhere, your mind never stops creating. Everywhere you look, you’re taking in detail and drawing inspiration. My biggest influence to study fashion was my husband. He has always encouraged me to follow my creative path. The most valuable lesson I learned from my time there was that it's important to have fun doing what you do.

3. As a personal stylist, what fashion trend would you suggest our readers add to their fall wardrobe?

 4. What are the greatest challenges you’ve faced working in the fashion industry? What changes do you think should be made to confront those issues?

The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries, and one of the most energy and raw material intensive. For this reason, our brand focuses on zero waste policy as well as on demand manufacturing.

 5. What accomplishment are you the most proud of? Where do you see you and your brand going in the future?

The smallest change of having zero waste and doing on-demand manufacturing is something my brand stands for and it is what we are most proud of. It's the little changes you do to help our environment that make the biggest difference.

We will be part of NYFW and Paris Fashion Week 2023/2024. It's an honor to showcase our collections on such a large scale. Our brand is also launching into retail soon.
