The Boston Food Scene: Boston Food Journal Blogger Shares Her Go-To Boston Restaraunts

Ready to start dining out again in Boston as the Covid restrictions wind down? Today’s woman dreamer, Brittany DiCapua is the founder of Boston Food Journal, a popular Boston food blog with almost 50 thousand followers. Inspired by a family passion for food and fond memories of cooking, Brittany started Boston Food Journal in 2015 on a whim. As restaurants are opening up and summer around the corner, Brittany shares her top 3 favorite vegetarian friendly Boston restaurants, a must-try dessert spot, and what she thinks makes the Boston food scene special. Enjoy her story below!

1) You are a Boston-based food blogger sharing some of Boston's best food. Tell us your story. What inspired you to start Boston Food Journal?

I started the Boston Food Journal in 2015 on a complete whim. Food was always a passion for my family growing up; from cooking together, traveling, exploring different food cuisines and going out to new restaurants etc., food was and is still the center of our lives. When I moved to Boston in 2014 after college, I was so excited about the dining scene here. I LOVED that I could have any cuisine I wanted and it was all just a quick walk away. Because I was going out to eat a lot I decided very quickly to start the BFJ on Instagram solely so I could share where I was eating and drinking with family and friends. I was also working in technology at the time, so it also served as a creative/artistic outlet for me (I'm a super creative person but was missing that element in my professional career at the time).

2) What are your 3 top restaurant recommendations in Boston (perhaps Vegetarian friendly, any specific dishes to try?)? What is your go-to dessert spot in Boston?

This is such a hard question because I feel there are SO many incredible spots here in Boston, it all just depends on your specific criteria/what you're interested in.

For vegetarian friendly restaurants in Boston I'd recommend: Veggie Galaxy, Life Alive and Rhythm 'N Wraps.

For dessert, I love Modern Pastry, Ocean Prime (their butter cake is insanely good) or The Egg Puff cart in Chinatown (a hidden gem).

3) The Boston food scene is unique, and has changed and grown a lot. How would you describe the Boston food scene to someone new to the city?

I would say it's filled with heart and character, and that is evidenced in the quality of food served.

The Boston food scene is also fairly diverse. There's lots of different options - anyone can typically find what they are looking for here!

4) Any advice to budding women food bloggers?

Go for it and don't be afraid. There are so many scary thoughts that can run through your head when creating a new page or publishing new content...but it's important to stay true to yourself. Also, differentiate. There are so many food bloggers out there now, so it's really important to create content that is relatable but also different from everyone else's. Your niche should never be forced...stay authentic to yourself, your interests and passions and the rest will follow.

5) As the platform for women dreamers, what is your next big dream?

I'd really love to get more into television!
