Akshaya Patra x Women Who Win - Bringing Powerful Stories from Women Leaders in Philanthropy

Akshaya Patra is the world's largest NGO school meal program, providing hot, nutritious lunches to over 2 million children every day. The organization operates 66 centralized and decentralized kitchens in 15 states and 2 union territories in India. The organization is leading the way in creating a more efficient and sustainable solution to address child hunger and improve access to education for children in need. Their philosophy - “No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger”

We are excited to showcase the women of Akshaya Patra. From chapter chairs to board members, chief guests, donors, and community supporters, this series highlights the power of the philanthropic spirit and how women leaders around the world are inspired by this cause and are setting an example for the next generation of philanthropists.

The Foundation has set an ambitious goal of feeding five million children each day by 2025, and I am motivated by the opportunity to help them meet (and hopefully exceed) their goal.

I am inspired by Akshaya Patra’s commitment to not only feed children who don’t have access to nutritious meals, but also their ability to draw them towards education.

Educating these children, and in particular, the girls will have a deep impact not only in India but globally as this will strengthen and broaden the future talent pool for the world. I am very excited about being a part of supporting this effort

Akshaya Patra Community Leaders

A wholesome meal prompts children, especially girls, to stay out of the workforce and attend school thereby addressing both classroom hunger and education. So I feel that Akshaya Patra’s vision and mission resonates with my desire of promoting education and supporting women empowerment through education.

Authors Creating Change - The Power of the Written Word

By feeding schoolchildren, AP enables them to remain in school. And to do well in their studies. Who can study when they are hungry? The meal that AP provides for the children changes their lives, offers them a brighter future.

Also, have you seen the AP films, the faces of the children as they are eating? The simple joy. That itself makes it worthwhile for me.

Young Professionals

I was first introduced to Akshaya Patra (AP) in 2010 by my father, who had attended an annual gala and was deeply moved by the cause. He thought that AP’s mission would strongly resonate with me too and he was right!

Establishing priorities, along with good time management and organizational skills, allows me to successfully balance my philanthropic goals with educational and career goals.
